  • According to Jesus, it misses the mark to stand in judgement of the sins of a repentant person. We should focus instead on their gratitude and changed heart. In Luke 7 Simon, a pride-filled Pharisee, judged both a woman with her sordid reputation and Jesus for hanging out with her. But Jesus called attention to her tears of repentance and appreciation for mercy as signs of love and faith. When focused on justifying ourselves we often point out other's sins. Instead we need to cry out for mercy.

Announcer: For FamilyLife Blended®, here’s Ron Deal.

Ron: According to Jesus, it misses the mark to stand in judgement of the sins of a repentant person. We should focus instead on their gratitude and changed heart. In Luke 7 Simon, a pride-filled Pharisee, judged both a woman with her sordid reputation and Jesus for hanging out with her. But Jesus called attention to her tears of repentance and appreciation for mercy as signs of love and faith; a faith that brought her forgiveness and peace.

You know, when focused on justifying ourselves we often point out the sins of others, what we really need to do is join them in crying out for mercy. For FamilyLife Blended I’m Ron Deal.
